About OxWip — Mission Statement

DEVELOPING the skills necessary for success.

INSPIRING students to aim high.

CONNECTING oxford women past and present.

Oxford Women in Politics (OxWip) was founded in Hilary 2004 with the aim of tackling the gender disparity evident in political organisations within and outside Oxford. Since then the society has broadened its scope, aiming to enable and inspire women to become the leaders of the future, whatever their chosen field. By uniting past and present generations of Oxford women, it aims to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, skills and experience which will enable its members to achieve success in politics and beyond.

The society runs a number of programmes to help members achieve their full potential. The Distinguished Women Leaders speaker series offers the chance to gain inspiration from successful women. Past speakers have included Theresa May, shadow minister for Women, Edwina Currie, journalist and politician and Dolly Jones editor of Vogue.com.

OxWip’s Leadership Development Workshops strengthen the key skills members will need to achieve future success. The society also hosts conferences and debates, as well as running a mentorship scheme - linking OxWip members to professionals in a range of fields. Social events each term provide an opportunity to network and make valuable contacts for the future.

For the past five years OxWip has expanded to include members from across Oxford as well as Oxford alumni and women from all corners of the globe. If you are interested in learning more about OxWip please contact oxwip@herald.ox.ac.uk or if you would like to join, Join here.
